Six letters.#GTHLSUGTHLSU.COM

Every Rebel fan reads it instantly. G-T-H-L-S-U squeezes a decades-old rivalry chant into a handle that fits on a hat brim, a koozie or a 140-character post. And it had a great September: No. 8 Ole Miss 32, No. 7 LSU 24 on Sept. 19, 2026, the night Lane Kiffin came back to Oxford in purple and gold.[1][2][3]

The handle test

  • GTHLSU6 chars
  • GOTOHELLLSU11 chars
  • GEAUXTOHELLLSU14 chars

Same chant, three doors. This one is the shortest: easiest to say on a podcast, fastest to type in a bio, smallest on a sticker. (We own the other two. They're listed below.)

Why a six-letter handle beats a sentence

Rivalry content lives on phones: screenshots, captions, hats and group texts. Short wins there. Here's where GTHLSU earns its keep.

#️⃣
Hashtag-native

No spaces, no apostrophes, no spelling debate. Fans who know, know; everyone else sees six letters and a wink.

🧢
Merch-sized

Fits a hat side panel, a koozie or a sleeve hit. Keep designs free of school marks and it's your own brand, not a licensed one.

🎙️
Say it on air

"G-T-H-L-S-U dot com" reads cleaner on a family-friendly broadcast than the full chant. Plausible deniability, built in.

📱
Bio and QR friendly

Short enough for a profile link, a QR code under a tailgate tent, or a TikTok watermark. U.S. digital entertainment spending hit $62.2B in 2025, per DEG.[5]

The night the handle went viral in our heads

Kiffin's first trip back to Oxford ended Ole Miss 32, LSU 24.

Sources: AP via WDAM, ESPN's box score and the Magnolia Bowl game log.[1][3][4] Before kickoff, Kiffin told reporters there would be "so much attention, hatred, everything on me" that week, and said the pressure was on Ole Miss.[4] The scoreboard disagreed.

Why "GTH" stings extra this year

55–19
Kiffin at Ole Miss

Six seasons in Oxford, per his LSU bio, and the first Ole Miss coach since Billy Brewer to beat LSU three times.[6]

Nov. 30
The day he left (2025)

Kiffin confirmed the move to LSU on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2025, before Ole Miss's playoff run, on a deal worth about $4M a year more than he made in Oxford.[7]

$91M
His LSU contract

Seven years, $13M a year, per The Advocate. LSU also paid his $3M Ole Miss buyout.[8]

So far it's 4–2 and 1–2 in the SEC for LSU, now No. 22 in the AP poll, with Mississippi State up next on Oct. 17.[9][10] Our opinion: whatever happens in Baton Rouge, Oxford already has the receipt it wanted.

Where "go to hell" comes from (as best anyone knows)

The most-told story dates to 1959: LSU coach Paul Dietzel supposedly had flyers reading "Go to Hell, LSU!" dropped on his own campus to fire up his team, and Ole Miss coach Johnny Vaught answered with "Go to Hell, Ole Miss!" flyers in Oxford. Even the sources that repeat it call it a legend, so we do too.[11][12] What isn't legend: both fan bases still yell it at each other, and LSU fans spell theirs "Geaux."[11]

  1. First meeting. Ole Miss wins 26–6 in Baton Rouge.[4]
  2. Student bodies name it the Magnolia Bowl (the magnolia is both states' flower). Ole Miss wins the first trophy, 31–13, in Baton Rouge.[4]
  3. Ole Miss 55, LSU 49 under Kiffin: the highest-scoring game in series history.[4]
  4. Ole Miss 24, No. 4 LSU 19 in Oxford.[13][14]
  5. No. 8 Ole Miss 32, No. 7 LSU 24. Kiffin's return. Two in a row.[1][4]

Fair is fair: LSU still leads the all-time series, 64–44–4 with vacated games removed. School record books count it differently, so you'll also see 66–44–4 before this year's game.[4][15]

FAQs

What does GTHLSU mean?

It's shorthand for the Ole Miss fan chant "Go to hell, LSU." LSU fans have their own version: "Geaux to hell, Ole Miss." The most common origin story is set in 1959 and is generally described as legend.[11][12]

What happened when Kiffin returned to Oxford?

No. 8 Ole Miss beat No. 7 LSU 32–24 on Sept. 19, 2026. Trinidad Chambliss scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 14-yard run with 6:14 left, and LSU threw an end-zone interception with 59 seconds to go.[1][4]

What's the all-time Ole Miss–LSU record?

LSU leads 64–44–4 with vacated games removed. Ole Miss has won the last two meetings and holds the Magnolia Bowl trophy.[4]

How is LSU doing in 2026?

4–2 overall and 1–2 in the SEC through Oct. 10, ranked No. 22 in the AP poll. LSU hosts Mississippi State on Oct. 17.[9][10]

Why buy the short version?

Six characters are easier to say, type and print than GoToHellLSU (11) or GeauxToHellLSU (14). It works as a hashtag, a social handle, a hat logo and a podcast segment name.

Is this site affiliated with LSU or Ole Miss?

No. It's a fan opinion site and a domain for sale. It isn't affiliated with LSU, Ole Miss, the SEC or Lane Kiffin, and it uses no school logos or marks.
